The Nautical Institute ( NI ) arranged presentation to award with Certificate of Appreciation on 21st August,2020 in honor to Mr Amitabh Kumar- IRS, DG of Shipping & his Team and Dr. Malini Shankar- Vice Chancellor IMU, Ex Chairperson NSB, Ex DG and her NSB Team for their commendable work carried out during COVID pandemic . Large gathering of eminent guests, CMMI members from India and overseas, ship owners/ managers and members from shipping fraternity had joined the felicitation event.

Capt. Vinod Naveen, AFNI, NI, India South
West (SW )branch presided the event and welcomed the guests and CMMI members , briefed
on the Nautical Institute London with
India SW branch administrating the theme of recognizing & appreciating organizations and individuals who have taken
an efforts towards the welfare of seafarers specially during the time of COVID pandemic.
Such events have been followed by NI in recognition of seafarers for their
efforts and in keeping the essential goods supply moving at all time during the
pandemic. He then briefed on the program.
Dr K. A. Simon, President Mariners Society & Former Director KM School of Marine Engineering welcomed all the eminent guests and introduced the speakers Ms Jillian C. Jackson- FNI , President , NI London; Mr. Walter Vervloesem- FNI, Vice President, NI and Chairman of NI Belgium branch; Capt. Jayakumar- Nautical Advisor , DGS GOI; Capt. M. M. Saggi- Former Nautical Advisor, DGS GOI; Capt. Ashok Mahapatra- Ex Director Maritime Safety Division, IMO; Shri Michael Pinto Former Secretary Shipping, Ex DG, GOI.
Ms Jillian Jackson and Mr Walter Vervloesem expressed their delight and honor in participating and celebration of the wonderful event in recognizing efforts and hard work of maritime professionals. NI expressed their pride in recognizing the challenging time and to keep focus of wellbeing of maritime professionals and take the opportunities to celebrate good news stories in difficult time and congratulated their SW India branch in setting up well managed certificate of appreciation campaign and arranging well organized event. Mr Walter addressed on how the certificate of appreciation was mooted and first awarded to one of the Master and it boosted the moral of all crew on board. It provided them moral support and also raised awareness of the Institute. He complemented on the excellent work provided in crew change logistics and support being provided to seafarers by the personalities being honored.

All distinguished
speakers thanked NI for inviting in felicitation event for honoring of Mr
Amitabh Kumar and Ms Malini Shankar. There were non-stop praising words from
every speaker for both personalities Mr Amitabh and Dr Malini complementing
their leadership and for taken their role of Administrator & Regulator to
the new heights. Speakers shown their rejoiced and were proud of both the personalities
and conveyed their hearty congratulation for the exemplary contribution especially
in the covid pandemic times.


Dr. Malini Shankar shared two important special projects during
her tenure as DG of Shipping and how her successor pushed forward in
accomplishing these projects and she complemented Mr Amitabh for the befitting
action. With present role she mentioned,
“ I have privilege to have the opportunity to mould the minds of youth in
maritime, influence the mind of those who impart knowledge and to strengthen
institutions that nurture them. I would like to take this opportunity to seek
the assistance of Nautical Institute in forging the constructive partnership
with likeminded organizations in our quest for honing the skill and knowledge
of seafarers and building a network of maritime professionals and
organizations” and thanked NI for the honor.
The presentation event
was ended with Vote of Thanks from Capt.

and Deputy Conservator Cochin Port Trust.
