Ports of Auckland has been told to 'stop the robotics' and fix its backlog problem.

Delays to shipping are increasing at the port.

It's meant up to eight different cargo ships from one shipping line have bypassed the port since September.

Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Federation president Chris Edwards concedes told Kate Hawkesby coronavirus is a major contributing factor.

But he says the Ports of Auckland's new automation project isn't helping either.

Mr Edwards is meeting with the Port tomorrow Nov 18, to see if they'd consider parking the project until delays are resolved.
