
Cargo handling is yet to commence at Chennai port
Cargo handling in Chennai port is yet to
commence 12 hours afer the crossing of
cyclone Nivar of the North Tamil Nadu coast. It would take at least a day for
the work to commence at the port since the ships that left the port in a huff
when the storm warning came are yet to return to the port. The port gates which
were closed when the cyclone hit the ares area on November 25th night, are
however open.

A top
official of the traffic department of the port told Sagar Sandesh that eight
vessels that left the port when the cyclone warning came on November 23rd are
yet to return to the port. The windy conditions in the port area and the
adjoining sea have delayed the departure of the ships from the high seas back
to Chennai port.
According
to current indications the ships are expected to be back in the port by late
tonight. cargo handling operations are expected to resume at the port by November 27th morning.
Because of Nivar port did not suffer any
major damage
The
official said the port did not suffer any major damage as a fall out of the nivar
cyclone.
