New Zealand has clamped a 17 day ban on entry of Indians into the island in view of the surge in corona virus infections in the sub continent

New Zealand High Commission sources here said the country has  announced a temporary ban on travellers from India starting April 11 due to the massive increase in Covid-19 cases.

"I want to emphasize that while arrivals of COVID from India has prompted this measure, we are looking at how we manage high risk points of departure generally. This is not a country specific risk assessment.

New Zealand's own citizens will not be allowed during this period in a bid to discourage people from travelling abroad. The time between April Eleven and 28th will be utilized to look at the risk management measures to resume international travel from the country.
