
Delhi Second busiest airport in the World
Delhi’s Indira
Gandhi International airport has emerged as the World’s second busiest airport
during March this year according to survey conducted by a global travel data
provider, thanks to the sustained policy of the civil aviation ministry of
concentrating international flights in India to New Delhi and Mumbai airports
The top position remained with the Atlanta airport in
United States East coast.

Nearly eighty per
cent of the international flights in India takes off or lands in Delhi or
Mumbai airport for the last several decades leaving the Chennai and Kolkata
international airports to handle the rest according to Industry sources.
Government of India is building a second airport near Delhi which is considered
as one of the largest airports in the world. The international airports at
Bengaluru and Hyderabad have since overtaken Chennai and Kolkata in terms of
international flights.

The rankings are

and international sectors. According to its report, the Delhi airport saw 3.61
million seats booked this March, beating Dubai airport (3.55 million seats) but
behind Atlanta airport (4.42 million seats).

The fourth
busiest airport during this period was London’s Heathrow (3.51 million seats),
followed by the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (3.46 million seats).
