Visakhapatnam airport out of action for the second day

Almost all flights to and from Visakhapatnam remain grounded for the second day today under the impact of the cyclone asani as heavy rains lashed the Andhra Pradesh coast along with gusty winds

 

All the flights of budget carriers Indigo and Spice jet from and to Visakhapatnam remain cancelled since May 11 morning. The airport authorities would undertake a review of the ban during the course of the day depending upon the climatic conditions

 

As many as 17 flights mostly from Andhra Pradesh have been cancelled in Chennai airport

 

Heavy rains are lashing parts of the Kakinada district and rough sea conditions are being witnessed in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. A ‘red’ warning has also been issued for the Andhra Pradesh coast and local authorities have been alerted to be prepared to take action to prevent disasters associated with the cyclone.

 

The National Disaster Relief Force has deployed 50 teams for rescue and relief operations in all the affected areas - out of this, 22 teams have been deployed in West Bengal, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, while the remaining  have been asked to be on alert within the states.
