Ukraine attempting wheat exports
The war torn
Ukraine is currently negotiating with Turkey and United Nations to facilitate
exports of their surplus wheat through their ports after the Russian troops have
vacated the islands in the black sea leading to ports in their country.
Exports will be difficult in some
places but definitely possible
Amidst reports
that about 20 million tons of surplus Ukraine wheat is available for Exports
its President Zelensky is quoted as having said exports will be difficult in
some places but definitely possible. Ukraine as a grain exporting country and
its farmers who need funds to prepare for the next years sowing are interested
in it.
We are currently
negotiating with the Turkish side and the UN. Our representatives are
responsible for the safety of grain exiting our ports. But it is a very
important moment for someone to guarantee the safety of the ships of certain
countries that will come to us to load food products other than Russia, which
we do not trust, President Zelensky was quoted by international media reports.
We are working on various ways, both
by rail and by the river, to export our grain
The President
said Ukraine is not wasting time and we are working on various ways, both by
rail and by the river, to export our grain. The Russian military fleet is
blocking sea routes to Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea coast, making it
impossible to safely transport grain to other countries, Ukrayinska Pravda
reported.
Meanwhile,
Turkey situated at the entrance of the black sea is trying to mediate port
unblock talks by demining the Black Sea and escorting bulk carriers for their
safety.
