port, Ennore near Chennai has enhanced its automobile handling capacity by
three million tons with the commissioning of General cargo berth 2, the
terminal entrusted with export and import of automobiles. About 100 ships will be berthed here
enabling the export of around 150,000 cars and OEMs through the Ro-Ro Berth
according to an official release.
The expansion enhances Kamarajar Port's
overall cargo handling capacity to 57.44 MTPA. This berth was commissioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a
function held at Trichirapalli on January 2nd. The capacity of
ports in Tamil Nadu however has not been fully utilized for the past several
years.
The berth constructed at a cost of Rs 341
crores has a length of 330 meters and a width of 33.25 meters was constructed
by the L and T group at a cost of Rs 206 crores. The capital dredging for the
Port was carried out at a cost of Rs 135 crores. The berth also has an
extensive parking space for 9600 cars.

Caterpillar, PC Automobiles, Komatsu and Kobelcowill be benefitting from the
state-of-the-art facilities of General Cargo Berth-II.Â
