Navi Mumbai Police Launch Investigation into Rs 85.6 Lakh Cargo Theft from Seabird Marine Services

An official statement released on Sunday 18 Feb  revealed that goods worth a staggering Rs 85.6 lakh were reported missing from the premises of Seabird Marine Services in Dronagiri.

In response to a complaint filed by a customs official, the Uran police have registered a case under sections 379 (theft) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. This legal action underscores the severity of the situation and the authorities’ commitment to pursuing justice for the victims of this crime.

The stolen goods, which included high-value eyewear, were stored in a container located on the premises of Seabird Marine Services in Dronagiri. The theft is believed to have occurred on the intervening night of February 2 and 3, according to the official statement. It is worth noting that the container in question was seized on February 24, 2021, and had been kept on hold within the company’s premises, adding a layer of complexity to the investigation.

As of now, the police are actively investigating the theft, but no arrests have been made thus far. The absence of suspects underscores the challenges inherent in unraveling the complexities of such criminal activities. However, law enforcement authorities are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and recover the stolen goods.

This incident sheds light on the vulnerabilities within the logistics infrastructure of Navi Mumbai. The theft of goods worth Rs 85.6 lakh underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures to protect valuable cargo. It also highlights the importance of comprehensive risk management strategies to mitigate potential losses and safeguard the interests of stakeholders.
