With these new additions, Wallenius Wilhelmsen
now holds firm contracts for a total of twelve next-generation Shaper class
vessels, marking a significant expansion of its fleet. At 9,300 CEU capacity, the Shaper
class will rank among the world’s largest Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTC).
The dual fuel vessels are also designed to be “methanol-capable and
ammonia-ready”.
The
latest order, announced on May 25, stems from the declared options the company
secured in March with China Merchants Jingling Shipyard Co., Ltd.
Wallenius
Wilhelmsen has the option to build four more vessels. However, the company
clarified that the options secured on March 25 do not necessarily indicate an
increased ambition for the current newbuilding program to exceed the twelve
vessels initially announced in August 2023.
Delivery for the latest four vessels
will take place in late 2027 or early 2028.
The
company expects the first four vessels to be delivered in the second half of
2026, followed by the second set of four vessels between May and November 2027.
