Amazon Enhances German Operations with €10 Billion Investment in Logistics and Cloud Services thus creating 4,000 new jobs

 This investment will create 4,000 new jobs this year at three new fulfillment centers: one in Horn-Bad Meinberg (North Rhine-Westphalia) opening in late summer 2024, one in Erfurt (Thuringia) which opened in May 2024, and one in Großenkneten which opened in August 2023.

These new jobs will bring Amazon’s total number of permanent employees in Germany to over 40,000 by the end of the year, providing diverse roles across more than 100 cities and municipalities.

This announcement increases Amazon’s planned investments in Germany to €17.8 billion, following the €7.8 billion AWS European Sovereign Cloud investment announced last month. The AWS European Sovereign Cloud, a new independent cloud for Europe, will launch its first AWS Region in Brandenburg by the end of 2025.

With state-of-the-art technologies, we deliver for small businesses and customers, while AWS enables organizations of all sizes in Germany to grow and innovate using the cloud. This has a positive impact on the country, especially in the communities where we operate, with investments and jobs ranging from research and development to logistics and customer service.” As part of its investment, AWS plans to invest €8.8 billion by 2026 to build, maintain, and operate its cloud infrastructure for the AWS Europe (Frankfurt) Region, established in the Frankfurt Rhein-Main area since 2014. This investment will meet growing demand for AWS technologies in Germany, including AI.

According to a new AWS economic impact study, AWS’s investment is estimated to contribute €15.4 billion to Germany’s GDP over this period, supporting an average of 15,200 full-time jobs annually in the local supply chain.
