Under the leadership of
Mukesh Ambani, Reliance Industries’ retail division aims to offer immediate
product deliveries in select areas within an hour. This move comes as the quick commerce sector, led by companies like
Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, and Zepto, is already fulfilling orders in just 10
minutes. Reliance’s new pilot follows the discontinuation of its JioMart
Express quick-commerce project last year
According to a report in The Economic Times,
Reliance Retail has initiated a pilot program for immediate delivery of
groceries and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The goal is to complete deliveries within an
hour. The fast-delivery service has been integrated into the JioMart mobile
application as a ‘hyperlocal delivery’ option. The report also mentions that
Reliance aims to reduce the delivery time to 30-45 minutes as more stores join
the system and operations expand to other markets.
Currently, Reliance’s shortest delivery time for
daily essentials ranges up to 12 hours, with some deliveries taking as long as three days. Instead of hiring a
large fleet of delivery personnel, Reliance plans to fulfill orders using its
store network and warehouses. In areas with limited store presence, Reliance
plans to partner with Kirana stores through the JioMart Partner initiative.
The report also indicates
that Reliance has advanced plans to
offer hyperlocal delivery for apparel and electronic items.
