This unprecedented achievement, announced by the Union Ministry
of Defence on July 5, 2024, marks a significant leap in India’s
journey towards self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
This substantial increase demonstrates India’s
growing capabilities in defence production and its commitment to enhancing
domestic manufacturing in this critical sector.
While public sector undertakings continue to lead in defence production,
the private sector’s involvement is steadily growing, indicating a more balanced and competitive
defence manufacturing ecosystem.
The significant increase in defence exports has
played a crucial role in driving up overall production figures. India now
exports a wide range of defence products to approximately 85 countries
worldwide.
India’s progress in defence production aligns with
its goal of becoming self-reliant in this critical sector and positions the
country as an emerging global player in defence manufacturing. While India has made significant strides,
sustaining this growth and meeting future targets will require continued focus
and strategic planning.
