The Nasdaq-listed boxship tonnage
provider and capsize bulker player disclosed in its quarterly earnings report it now has five ships contracted at
China’s state-run yard, three of which should deliver in 2027 and two in 2028.
The initial order in July comprised
four methanol-ready scrubber-fitted post-panamax units at $105m each, backed by
multi-year charter deals.
John Coustas-led Danaos has ordered
20 ships since December 2020, with three already delivered and all fixed for
about 4.5 years on average. In terms of further orders, Coustas told investors
the company would “pause for the time being”.
Danaos boasts a fleet of 70 containerships, with
three more newbuilds joining the fleet later this year. The company has also
been accumulating secondhand capsize tonnage and currently counts 10 ships.
