Transforming Assam's tea tourism: 34 tea gardens get sanction letters under development scheme

Tourism Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, who handed out the letters, emphasised the scheme's goal is to boost tea tourism in the state. “Today, I had the pleasure of distributing sanction letters to 34 selected tea gardens under Phase II of the Assam Tea Tourism Development Scheme," he shared on X. The program represents a major step towards establishing Assam’s tea heritage as a premier global tourism destination.

"By fostering growth in rural communities and preserving our rich history, we are set to see Assam’s tea tourism thrive on the international stage," Mallabaruah noted, adding that 22 tea gardens benefited from Phase I of the scheme.
The minister highlighted that although Assam possesses significant tourism potential, it had not been fully realised in the past due to various obstacles. "However, the state government is now diligently working to promote tourism across all sectors by eliminating these barriers. Ensuring peace is crucial for attracting tourists, and the government is committed to maintaining a stable environment," he said.
