Himachal Pradesh is on
track to become the inaugural state in India to launch a specialized
Horticulture Policy. This initiative
aims to boost produce and designate the region as the 'fruit bowl of India.'
The Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, disclosed details during a review
of the HP Shiva Project. With an investment of Rs 1,292 crore, the project will
extend over 6,000 hectares in seven districts. It plans to introduce 60 lakh
fruit saplings including guava, citrus fruits, pomegranates, dragon fruit,
blueberries, and jackfruits by 2028.
The policy is designed to encompass small and
marginal farmers, enhancing their economic standing.
By 2032, the project
anticipates generating 1.30 lakh metric tonnes of fruit annually, valued at Rs
230 crore, and creating employment opportunities for 82,500 individuals.
