The Indian Maritime University (IMU) celebrated its 9th Convocation

The Indian Maritime University (IMU) celebrated its 9th Convocation with great pride and ceremony at its Headquarters in Chennai on Monday, October 7, 2024. The event witnessed the successful graduation of 1,974 students, which included 4 Doctoral Scholars (PhD) and 1 MS (by Research) Scholar.

The Convocation was presided over by Dr. Malini V Shankar, IAS (Retd.), Vice Chancellor of IMU, who conferred degrees to the graduates and delivered a thought-provoking Presidential Address.

Dr. Shankar  while presenting the Annual Report of the University, highlighted IMU's  progress and strategic initiatives that are being pursued, including the establishment of the Incubation Cell.  The Vice Chancellor mentioned that more than 5 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with reputed national and international Institutions have been inked. 

She spoke on how the Maritime objectives under the Vision documents, Maritime India Vision 2030 and Maritime Amrit Kaal 2047 are being realised in a progressive fashion.

The Chief Guest, Shri. Harsh Vardhan Shringla, delivered an inspiring Convocation Address, and presented the medals to the top performers of the University’s Academic Programmes.  He congratulated the graduates, their families, and the IMU faculty for their achievements, encouraging the students to remain proud of their roots and to continuously enhance their skills to meet the dynamic needs of the maritime industry. He urged the graduates to be the Ambassadors for India and their alma mater, Indian Maritime University. 

Of the 1,974 students graduating this year, 256 students received their degrees in person, while 1,718 were conferred their degrees in-absentia. The ceremony was another milestone in IMU's history. The event was also a testimony to its dedicated service in preparing skilled professionals to the global maritime sector.

Indian Maritime University, undoubtedly is poised well to be a leading global maritime University in times to come.
