Chennai Port has emerged as the winner of the IAPH Sustainability Award 2024 in the Community Building category. This accolade marks Chennai Port as the first Indian port ever to receive such significant global recognition for its innovative initiatives that extend beyond traditional port operations, focusing on community welfare and environmental preservation.
The World Ports Sustainability Program (WPSP) of IAPH aims to showcase the global leadership of ports in contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The WPSP recognizes exemplary ports with the IAPH Sustainability Award for their outstanding efforts and best practices. Chennai ports efforts over the years towards our mission to “Act as a catalyst for sustained development of the Region” was encapsulated for WPSP. The submission was selected into top 3 finalist under community building category by expert jury among more than 71 projects from 50 ports globally, and emerged as winner.
Shri Indranil Hazra, Secretary of Chennai Port received award at the World Ports Conference on 9th October, where he expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Government of India for its progressive policies that have paved the way for this recognition. He thanked the Chennai Port Authority for its inclusive approach and acknowledged the unwavering support of the people of Chennai and their alignment with the Port's vision.
