The family-owned shipping company’s debut order at
Damen will see the so-called CF 3850 series delivered in early 2026. The ships
have been designed to boost the sustainability, efficiency, and lifespan of
Bernd Sibum’s fleet, the shipbuilder said.
The 3,850 dwt units will feature an “enhanced
design platform”, offering a 30% improvement in fuel efficiency. In addition to being hybrid-ready, the ships can
run on biofuel, be equipped with wind-assist technology, and sport a set of
batteries used by the bow thruster for peak shaving and port operations, as
well as readiness for an upgraded shore power connection.
“This investment is a major step toward
decarbonisation, but we now also urge ports and the broader shipping industry
to develop and implement the necessary shore-based infrastructure. We are confident these vessels will set a new
market standard, both now and in the years to come,” said Bernd Sibum, managing
director of Reederei Bernd Sibum.
The newbuilds will be
constructed at Damen Yichang Shipyard in China and serve in the northwest
European shortsea shipping market upon delivery.
