This project aims to support the launch
of the much-anticipated Ro-Ro ferry services, which are scheduled to commence
in December 2024. The introduction of
Ro-Ro ferries, equipped with cutting-edge technology, will replace the older
ferry boats and provide a modern, efficient commuting option for residents of
Ribandar and neighbouring areas. These ferries will be capable of carrying
a large number of passengers, along with increased four-wheeler capacity,
offering faster and smoother connectivity between Ribandar and Chorao Island.
This service is expected to greatly enhance waterway transport in the region
easing the daily commute .
To facilitate this, IPSCDL is overseeing the
widening of the existing Ribandar Ferry Ramp at the request of the River
Navigation Department. This essential upgrade will ensure the new Ro-Ro
ferries can operate smoothly. The project includes expanding the current ramp,
which is 9 meters wide, by an additional 17 meters, resulting in a total width
of 26 meters to accommodate the larger ferries. The work also involves the
reconstruction and extension of the ramp, along with piling, building a
retaining wall and installing mooring piles. Additional infrastructure
improvements include the development of a ticket booth and restroom facilities
for passengers.
The estimated cost of the project is
₹2,07,88,122. This initiative will not only improve connectivity between
Ribandar and Chorao Island but is also expected to boost economic activity in
the area by strengthening the local transportation network for both residents
and tourists
