KMB is putting out a global tender to develop port of Pavinakurve

For the “development of all-weather deepwater 14 million tonne per annum (MTPA) port at Pavinakurve in Uttara Kannada under the PPP model,” the Karnataka Maritime Board (KMB) has issued a worldwide tender. Chief Executive Officer Jayaram Raipura of KMB estimates that the port’s development will cost ₹3,047.86 crore. On the banks of the Sharavathi and Badagani rivers in Honnavar taluk, along the shore of Pavinakurve village, is the proposed location for the port’s development.

The Karnataka Public Procurement Portal offers the project’s tender documents for download. According to the CEO, 214 hectares of land would be needed to house the port’s backup area facilities. This land would be generated by reclamation using the project’s dredged material.

Iron ore, coal and coking coal, limestone and dolomite, green hydrogen, green ammonia, liquified natural gas (LNG), and completed steel products were among the goods that needed to be handled at the port. The port would have deep draft berthing facilities and state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly high-throughput equipment to handle cape-sized vessels up to 1,80,000 deadweight tons (DWT). For the aforementioned tender, a pre-bid meeting has been set for December 10, 2024, using a hybrid format that includes both a physical meeting in the Office of the CEO, KMB, and a videoconference.

Bids must be received by January 9, 2025, at the latest. The bidder with the highest royalty per MT at the planned port would win the project.
