Judge Rezaul Karim of Dhaka Special Judge Court-10
handed down the sentence in presence of the convict, said ACC Public Prosecutor
Mahmud Hossain Jahangir. After the
verdict, the judge ordered to send the convict to Dhaka Central Jail with a
conviction warrant.
Earlier, the prosecution and defence completed
their arguments, and the judge recorded the statements of 12 prosecution
witnesses, including the complainant of the case.
On April 12, 2018, the ACC arrested NazmulHaque
from a hotel in Segunbagicha area of the capital when he was allegedly taking
a bribe of Tk 5 lakh for approving a ship's design.Following the incident, the ACC filed the case against him with
Shahbagh Police Station.
According to the case statement, a trap was planned to arrest Nazmul
red-handed after receiving a complaint from a shipping company named Syed
Shipping Lines.
Nazmul told an official of that company to come to
a restaurant with Tk 5 lakh.Meanwhile, a team of ACC had already took position
to detain him red-handed. Immediately after he accepted the bribe, the ACC team
arrested Nazmul.
After an investigation, the ACC pressed charges
against him on November 12, 2018. The court framed charges against the accused
on February 20, 2020
