To
improve logistics, Chennai Port opens a state-of-the-art railway goods shed at
Jolarpet Railway Station. This project
reduces traffic in the Chennai area and promotes sustainability.
At a cost of ₹6.71 crore, the
most recent project from Chennai Port Authority was built under a
revenue-sharing arrangement with Southern Railway. These goods sheds
demonstrate a dedication to sustainability by supporting green logistics
solutions and enabling smooth container movement. The “TVS Go Green Express”
container train was introduced by the Chennai Port Authority, Indian Railways,
and Container Corporation (CONCOR). An
important turning point in environmentally friendly transportation was reached
when this train was signaled off and received at Ennore Port Rail Siding.
29
FEUs (58 TEUs) of auto goods, each weighing 20 MT, were transported by train.
These shipments, which are headed for African countries, demonstrate the
enhanced link between Chennai Ports and important areas such as Bangalore,
Mysore, and Northern Tamil Nadu. Port operations and trade efficiency are
enhanced by faster shipping.
By
combining rail and road logistics, the multi-modal method lowers bottlenecks
and offers economical alternatives. These
initiatives help regional economic growth while showcasing Chennai Port
Authority’s dedication to innovation and environmental responsibility.
