The Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST), in
collaboration with the Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council
(TIFAC), successfully organized a workshop on Technology Prioritization for the
Energy Sector at Gujarat Science City. The event aimed to address climate change and sustainability through
strategic technology development. Energy is essential for modern economies,
enabling investments, innovations, and new industries that drive job creation,
inclusive growth, and shared prosperity on a sustainable planet.
Recognizing this critical role, GUJCOST and TIFAC convened experts to
discuss and prioritize energy technologies crucial for climate resilience and
sustainable development. Presided over by
Prof. Pradeep Srivastava, Executive Director of TIFAC, the workshop featured
insights from leading scientists and researchers. Prof. Srivastava emphasized
the historical significance of energy in societal advancement and highlighted
the urgent need for sustainable practices to combat climate change and global
warming. He called on researchers to contribute to a cleaner, greener future. Dr. Gautam Goswami, Scientist G and Head
of the Technology Foresight Division at TIFAC, led the session, presenting a
diverse array of energy technologies that could propel India towards becoming a
Viksit Bharat (Developed India). He stressed the importance of identifying and
prioritizing technologies for climate change mitigation and adaptation.
The event saw active
participation from over 40 faculty members representing 25 institutions across
Gujarat, including prestigious entities such as Gujarat Energy Research and
Management Institute, Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Central University of
Gujarat, IIT Gandhinagar, and more. These experts brought diverse perspectives
and deep expertise in the energy sector. Dr. Narottam Sahoo, Advisor at
GUJCOST, reiterated the interconnectedness of energy with all aspects of life
and its pivotal role in fostering sustainable growth. He underscored the
importance of the energy sector in driving investments and innovations for a
sustainable planet.
A
