Early this month, representatives of
VadhavanVirodhiSangharshSamiti met Shinde and said the project would cause loss
of livelihood among a large section of the population. Based on documents, they
said it would generate a mere 1,000 jobs. But, Sanjay Sethi, chairman, JNPA,
who made a presentation, said fishermen whose livelihood would be affected
would be given compensation.
Representatives VaibhavVaze, Leo Colaco, Narayan Patil
said the documents provided by JNPA were in English and it was difficult for
them to understand, and the 650-page environment impact report had been reduced
to a 30-page summary. Shinde directed
that the documents be provided in Marathi and the public hearing be postponed
by a month.
