The Mediterranean Shipping Company
(MSC), World’s largest shipping line has decided to skip the Suez canal route
to reach European Ports from Asia and
take to circuitous route through Cape
town in South Africa in view of the tensions building up in the Red sea
channel.
MSC will continue to
re-route vessels booked for Suez transit via the Cape of Good Hope, in the light of attack
on its container ship while transiting the Red sea recently
MSC has confirmed that on December
26, the container ship MSC UNITED VIII was attacked while transiting the Red
Sea. The vessel informed a nearby
coalition task force warship of the attack and, as instructed, engaged in
evasive manoeuvres.
The incident occurred at
approximately while the MSC vessel was en route from King Abdullah Port, Saudi
Arabia to Karachi, Pakistan.
Currently, all crew are safe with no
reported injuries and a thorough assessment of the vessel is being conducted.
