The
Port workers in Sri Lanka cannot go on strike till January 23rd
following an injunction issued by the Colombo District Court against direct
action according to Sri Lankan media reports
An
injunction was issued by the Colombo District Court against the All-Ceylon
General Ports Employees’ Union from resorting to work-to-rule campaign has been
extended until January 23rd by Colombo Additional District Judge
ChamariWeerasuriya.
The All-Ceylon General Ports Employees’
Union initially planned to launch a work-to-rule campaign from December 28 last
year, demanding wage increase.
However,
the Colombo District Court on December 28th issued an enjoining order against
the trade unions of the Ports Authority, preventing them from staging a token
strike that would disrupt the operations of the Colombo Port.
