The first step to take up to provide Metro
rail connectivity between Bengaluru and Hosur in Tamil Nadu was launched when
Chennai Metro rail appointed consultants to prepare a detailed project report
brushing aside severe opposition from Karnataka.
Karnataka including its top minister have openly spoken
against the project since they felt the project would facilitate
industrialization of Tamil Nadu. Bandhs were organized in Bengaluru against this
project. They are also opposed to Chennai metro undertaking the project.
Brushing aside all these objections which
could seriously harm the project prospects, Chennai metro went ahead and signed
a contract agreement worth about rs 3 lakh with private consultants to conduct
a feasibility study for introducing the first inter state mass mass rapid
transit system between Hosur in Tamil Nadu to Bommasandra near Bengaluru
The proposed corridor is approximately 20 km, covering 8
km in Tamil Nadu and 12 km in Karnataka. The scope of work includes conducting various traffic
surveys, updating the existing Travel Demand Model, forecasting the travel
demand for 30 years at five-year intervals and estimating ridership along the
proposed corridor. Chennai Metro Rail Managing Director MA Siddique and other
officials were present during the event.
