DP World
has introduced a new Indian multimodal service, SARAL-2, which connects Chennai
to the National Capital Region (NCR) and features a daily rail freight service
with a capacity of 500 TEU a week. Last November the company launched SARAL-1
which links South Gujarat to markets in and around NCR.
The SARAL operation leverages DP
World’s ability to deliver multimodal services by integrating coastal shipping,
rail and truck operations to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and enhance
supply chain efficiencies. The SARAL-2 rail link connects Mundra port to NCR,
with a coastal shipping service then used to transport containers to and from
Chennai.
This
second service is a joint initiative between Avana Logistek, part of Unifeeder,
a DP World company, and DP World’s rail freight services, and aims to offer a
package of logistics solutions, bringing India’s northern markets closer to the
southern region. DP World will also
provide cargo owners with a sustainability profile that highlights the
reduction of CO2 emissions achieved by each user of the SARAL service.
