Preliminary data as of March 15th, 2024,
revealed that the Indian Railways exceeded an originating Freight loading of
1500 MT, surpassing the previous record set at 1512 MT in the fiscal year
2022-23.
In terms of total revenue, the Indian
Railways generated Rs 2,40 lakh crores by the current date in the fiscal year
2023-24, compared to Rs 2.23 lakh crores on March 15th of the previous year,
indicating an increase of Rs 17,000 crore. The total expenditure for this
fiscal year amounted to Rs 2.26 lakh crores.
The total number of passengers traveling during the
fiscal year 2023-24 was reported at 648 crore, reflecting an increase of 52
crore compared to the corresponding period of
the previous year, which recorded 596 crore passengers.
Throughout the current fiscal year, the
Indian Railways laid 5100 kilometers of new tracks, achieving an average daily track laying rate of over 14 kilometers
per day.
