With an aim to transport 20 KT of coal from Mangalore Port to the
VAB-Amona plant, this initiative showcases a strategic shift towards
cost-effective and eco-friendly transportation methods.
Coal delivery via coastal
transportation both limits the environmental impact and also lowers expenses. Compared to conventional methods such as road transportation, usage of
barges results in lesser fuel consumption, emissions and avoids traffic
congestion along arterial roads.
Commenting on this initiative, Dr. Venkata Ramana Akkaraju , the
Chairman of NMPT stated, “Historic moment for NMPA as first Coastal Cargo
movement of Coal to Vedanta Value Added Business in Amona Goa started today.
This initiative will encourage Coastal movement of Cargo, which is cost
effective, efficient, pollution free and reduces traffic congestion on road.”
Speaking on the partnership, Mr. Navin Jaju, CEO, Sesa Goa-Vedanta Ltd.
said, “We are delighted to partner with NMPT as they mark a milestone with the
launch of coastal transportation of coal viat the barge MV Mandovi. Embracing
eco-friendly coastal routes is another step forward towards our commitment of
#TransformingPlanet and a greener future for all.”
Vedanta Sesa Goa remains committed to sustainable business practices and
operational excellence, ensuring minimal disturbance to local communities and
wildlife conservation efforts. This
initiative exemplifies the company’s dedication to responsible resource
management and keen environmental stewardship.
