Shipments to the
US West Coast will be even dearer with $1200 being charged extra for containers
enroute from India.
CMA CGM and Hapag Lloyd have announced a Peak
Season Surcharge of $500 to the US East and Gulf coasts. In addition, Hapag
Lloyd has also announced a similar surcharge of $1000 for every container being
moved to the US West Coast.
A General Rate Increase of $1,200 per
container is expected from Mediterranean Shipping Company for containers being
moved from India to US West Coast and Canada.
Maersk will be
collecting a Peak Season Surcharge for all types of cargo. It is $560 per
20-foot container, $600 per 40-foot container and $760 per 45-foot container. Industry experts opine that
shipping lines stand better chance for raising rates to the US west coast as
the capacities on these lanes are rather full as compared to the US East Coast.
