Maritime Industry Stalwarts
Hathayogi Shri Nikam Guruji in 1965 founded Shri Ambika
Yoga Kutir (SAYK) in Girgaum, Mumbai,
Maharashtra. He continued the yoga activity in his residence for 20 years. He
believed that Yoga is a precious gift bequeathed to us by our ancestors. So we
should not devalue it by charging fees. So he created a chain of dedicated yoga
teachers and gave them the mantra of Selfless service (Seva Vrata) - Teach Yoga
Free of cost to all.. Today, the Shri Ambika Yoga kutir has over 91 branches
(85 in India and 6 Abroad) with 2500 selfless volunteers teaching yoga free of
cost.
The Recent
Collaboration between the Directorate General of Shipping and the Yoga
Institute celebrated “Sagar Mein Yog” Event during National Maritime Week at Shri Ambika Yoga Kutir graced by Shri Shyam
Jagannathan and other industry stalwarts.
In
compliance with the Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India’s policy for
standardizing the Qualification of Yoga Teachers, to date, 210 teachers of SAYK
have been accredited as Certified Yoga Teachers by the Ministry of AYUSH,
Government of India.
Recently in all branches of
Shri Ambika Yoga Kutir, 3 month course on every Sunday has began which helps in
gaining physical and mental strength.
In the last nine years, the Modi government has made
an unparalleled contribution in promoting yoga, not just as a physical pursuit
but as a holistic lifestyle choice that transcends borders and cultures. The
emphasis placed on yoga at both the national and international levels
underscores its importance in fostering physical
well-being, preserving cultural
heritage, and enhancing India's
soft power on the global stage.
Yoga, a transformative practice, offers a unique synthesis of physical
empowerment, mental balance, and emotional stability essential for navigating
the challenges of modern life. In response to PM Modi’s passionate call,
the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)
declared June 21st as
the International Day of Yoga in 2014.
Yoga as a mantra is a significant one for every
Indian, in particular, in the ongoing Azadi
Ka Amrit Kaal. PM Modi asserts, “Through
Yoga, we know the selfless action, we decide the journey from Karma to
Karmayoga.” It is yoga, according to him, that has the
potential to foster physical strength and mental expansion needed to create a
developed India by 2047.
