l WAN HAI A16 is the ninth ship in the 13,100 TEU series containerships
being built by Samsung Heavy Industries. This
series of containerships has a length of 335 meters, a breadth of 51 meters, a
draft of 16 meters and a maximum cruising speed of 22 knots.
The vessels are equipped with newly designed engines with environmentally
friendly features aimed at achieving energy-saving and fuel-efficient
advantages.
In addition, this series of vessels has obtained the “Smart Ship
Notation” certification, which enables the use of various monitoring systems
and communication equipment to collect real-time ship navigation data and
equipment operation conditions.
The shipowner expects the vessel to be delivered in mid-June. Once
delivered, the containership will join Wan Hai Lines’ Asia to West Coast of
North America service. As part of its
decarbonization efforts, Wan Hai Lines signed a 10-year sustainability-linked
shipping financing agreement with Standard Chartered Bank last year.
The company has set clear carbon reduction targets, committing to a
50% reduction in the carbon intensity of its fleet by 2030 compared to the base
year (2008).
Additionally, the firm has
obtained dual certifications in greenhouse gas inventory and GHG Protocol since
2022, with a 5.2% reduction in fleet CO2 emissions
intensity compared to the previous year, which represents a decrease of
approximately 34% compared to 2008
