The Chennai Port Authority
celebrated International Yoga Day on June 21st with the theme of “Yoga for
Women Empowerment” through a series of events held at three work stations of
Centenary Building at Chennai Port Authority and at Chennai Port & Dock
Educational Trust Hr. Sec. School. This celebration aims to promote the
practice of yoga among Port employees, students, and the wider community
associated with the Chennai Port Authority.
The Hon’ble Prime Minister, has
mentioned that Yoga offers a sanctuary of calm, enabling us to navigate life's
challenges with calm and fortitude. Recognizing the profound benefits of this
ancient practice, Chennai Port Authority organized the International Yoga Day
2024 for the officials of Chennai Port Authority and school students &
teachers of Chennai Port and Dock Educational Trust Hr. Sec. School.
The day at Chennai Port
Authority began with yoga sessions held at three various work stations, where nearly
210 number of port officials had the opportunity to engage in yoga practices.
In the yoga sessions both male and female, embraced the opportunity to practice
yoga, fostering a sense of peace and unity in their demanding work environment.
These sessions were led by
experienced Yoga Instructors and demonstrators from Vivekanantha Nilayam, who
guided participants through various asanas (yoga postures) and pranayama
(breathing exercises) to invigorate and rejuvenate their bodies and mental
resilience particularly for women.
Furthermore, the Chennai Port
Authority extended its Yoga programme beyond the port premises by extending to
its community by conducting yoga sessions at Chennai Port and Dock Educational
Trust School, where nearly 130 school students and Teachers have participated.
With an aim to blend the principles of yoga with the vibrant expression of art;
drawing competition with the theme “yoga in healthy life style” was also
conducted for school students. This initiative aimed to introduce the practice
of yoga to young minds, encouraging them to embrace a holistic approach to
health and wellness. Students participated in yoga sessions, learning
techniques that can help them maintain focus and reduce stress during their
academic pursuits.
Shri Sunil Paliwal, IAS,
Chairperson, Chennai Port Authority and Chairman Kamarajar Port limited,
addressed the gatherings, highlighting the significance of
#InternationalDayofYoga2024 in the presence of Shri S.Viswanathan IAS Dy.

He emphasized on this occasion
to celebrate the power of yoga with the focus on empowering women and the
collective well-being of the port Human being and nature. Through these events,
Chennai Port Authority aim to promote physical and mental well-being among our
employees, students, and the broader community. Chennai Port Authority remains
committed together in promoting health, wellness, and a balanced lifestyle
among its employees and the wider community.
The celebrations concluded with
a collective pledge to integrate yoga into daily routines and to promote its
benefits within the port community and beyond, particularly highlighting the
empowerment of women through yoga. The Chennai Port Authority reaffirms it’s
dedication in fostering a healthy, harmonious, and productive environment
through such initiatives.
