NITI Aayog has introduced new
guidelines promoting the use of steel slag in road construction, marking a
significant step towards sustainable infrastructure development in India.
These guidelines advocate for the
processed utilisation of steel slag aggregates, effectively repurposing waste
from steel industries to enhance environmental sustainability.
The implementation is projected to deliver
substantial benefits, including cost reduction, minimised environmental
impact, and improved road performance. Additionally, the guidelines outline a
comprehensive framework for the safe handling and storage of steel slag to
mitigate environmental contamination risks.
