This system, a cornerstone for streamlined toll
payments and reduced traffic congestion at toll plazas, is undergoing
significant changes. The National Payments
Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced new guidelines, emphasizing Know
Your Customer (KYC) requirements.
From August 1, companies offering FASTag
services must race against the clock to complete KYC for all FASTags issued
three to five years ago by October 31. Customers must ensure their KYC is
updated within this period to avoid service disruptions.
NPCI’s guidelines also
require replacing FAS tags older than five years, making it crucial for vehicle
owners to check their tags’ issuance dates and act promptly.
For those driving older
vehicles, these updates are particularly important. Between August 1 and
October 31, companies must:
Update the KYC for FASTags older than three to five years.
Replace FAS tags older than five years. Missing
these deadlines could cause significant inconveniences, so staying on top of
these changes is vital.
Additionally, from August
1, all FAS tags must be linked to the vehicle’s registration and chassis
numbers. New vehicle owners must update their registration number within 90
days of purchase. FASTag providers must verify and update their databases meticulously,
ensuring accuracy and up-to-date information.
Providers are also required to upload clear
photos of the vehicle’s front and side to facilitate easy identification of the
car linked to the FASTag. Each FASTag must be connected to a mobile number for seamless
communication and updates.
The deadline for completing
all KYC requirements is set for October 31, 2024. Waiting until the last minute
could lead to unforeseen issues, so prompt action is advisable.
