Seafarers' Welfare ; NUSI Organized a Crucial Meeting between DG Shipping Officials & ITF Leaders in Mumbai
Meeting between Senior officials from the Directorate General of Shipping and key representatives from the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF).
In a significant step towards
improving the welfare of seafarers, senior officials from the Directorate
General of Shipping met withkey representatives from the International
Transport Workers' Federation (ITF). The ITF delegation included Mr. Steve
Trowsdale,Inspector Coordinator, ITF; Mr. Mohamed Arrachedi, ITF, FOC
Network Coordinator for Arab World & Iran; Mr. Jonathan Warring, Senior
Legal Advisor alongwith Mr. Milind Kandalgaonkar, General
Secretary-cum-Treasurer (NUSI) and Capt. Tushar Pradhan (MUI). During the meeting, both sides engaged in an in-depth discussion
on pressing issues concerning the wellbeing and rights of maritime workers. Key
topics included safety measures,better
working conditions, protection against unfair practices, and ensuring that
seafarers receive proper legal and financial support in line with international
maritime standards. The DG Shipping officials
reiterated their commitment to safeguarding seafarers' interests and ensuring
that India's maritime sector remains compliant with global norms. ITF
representatives expressed appreciation for India's proactive stance on
seafarers' welfare and highlighted the importance of continuous collaboration
to tackle ongoing challenges in the industry. Further, the ITF delegates
visited the NUSI head office to provide valuable insights to the seafarers.
This meeting marks an important milestone in strengthening the ties between
India's maritime administration and international organizations focused on
seafarers' rights, setting the stage for further positive developments in the
sector.
