Kochi Mariners Society of Kerala celebrated World Maritime Day at
Marchant Navy Club, Willington Island on 26th Sept 2024. The fast
expansion projects of Cochin Shipyard and its new ship building orders that going
to cater more employment and growing of shipping and maritime sector in various
ways explained by Chief Guest Mr. Rajesh Gopalakrishnan, Executive Director of
Cochin Shipyard. He added that many expansion projects is in progress in Wellington
Island which is going to change the face of Cochin Port as well as possibilities
of increasing of more business opportunities in Kerala. Dr Jose Paul, former
Chairman of Marmagoa Port reiterated that India is on the proper track on
developments as per Sagar Mala Project initiated by Central Government, however
along with developments of major ports government should constitute a panel to
study for the developments of 200 minor ports in India. He suggested that CUSAT
and other professional body of Mariners may include to find out the ways to
expand and increase trade in minor ports. Honored and felicitated following
Ship Owners from Kerala for their invaluable service and dedication given to
the shipping sector for many decades during this function, M/S Collis Lines,
Kinship India Pvt Ltd, M/S Cochin Shipping Co., M/S Trans Asia Shipping, M/S
ACT Shipping Co. and Lakshadweep Development Corporation. Mr. T.V Sujan of ACT Shipping shared their experience
in shipping in operation of 10 bulk carrier ships and plans to increase the
tonnage by building of new ships and expansion projects in India. Honored Mr.
N.M.C. Nair recipient of Lifetime Achievement Award from Institute of Marine
Engineers of India. Mr. Sajan Thommachi Deputy General Manager of Fleet
Management Ltd delivered Welcome address, Mr.V.V Paul Sr Engineer and Ship
surveyor and Capt. Muthukumar Deputy Conservator Cochin Port Trust delivered
felicitation, Prof Dr K.A Simon President of Mariners Society presided over the
function and Capt Sardar Kandathil, Secretary, Mariners Society delivered vote
of thanks.
