USEC Port Strike Ends with ILA, USMX Reaching Agreement

The port workers’ strike on the United States East Coast comes to an end after the agreement between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX). The two bodies have reached a tentative agreement on wages and have agreed to extend the Master Contract until 15 January 2025.

In January, they are expected to return to the bargaining table to negotiate all other outstanding issues.

The first ILA strike in five decades saw 45,000 union employees walk off the job and bring container and ro-ro handling to a halt at 36 ports across 14 major marine hubs from New England to Texas.
