Seafarers and NUSI celebrate “6th November, 2024 - Seafarers Unity Day”

The “Seafarers Unity Day” celebration, held by the National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) on November 6, 2024 at the Indian Sailors Home Society (ISHS) was a great success, bringing together key figures in the maritime community. The event, under the theme “Seafarers: Moving the World,” highlighted the invaluable contributions of seafarers globally. It is also a paid holiday on all NUSI Agreement for seafarers working on Indian and foreign flag ships on 6th November every year. This annual event holds immense significance as it recognizes and honours the contributions and sacrifices of our brave seafarers. The event was telecasted live and reached all over India and also on board ships throughout the world.

Distinguished guests, including Shri Shiva Gopal Mishra General Secretary, All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF) as the Chief Guest, and Shri Mahendra Gharat President, New Maritime & General Kamgar Sanghatana (NMGKS) as the Guest of Honour, added prestige to the gathering.

NUSI President, Advocate Premanand Salgaonkar, presided over the function and extended his best wishes on Seafarer's Unity Day, emphasizing the need for seafarers to continuously upgrade their skills in line with advancing technologies. He also urged seafarers and their families to stay united under the strong banner of NUSI.

This was followed by a speech by Shri Milind Kandalgaonkar, General Secretary –cum- Treasurer, NUSI who spoke about the various initiatives taken by team NUSI to support the welfare of seafarers and their families on a pan-India level.

NUSI and our seafarers and their families were honored by the presence of Shri Shiva Gopal Mishra, General Secretary of the All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF), as Chief Guest. In his address, Shri Mishra underscored the importance of unity among seafarers, noting its power to address challenges and safeguard their well-being. He assured the seafarers that a railway ticket quota would soon be allocated to support their smooth transit during sign-on and sign-off periods.
