This initiative aims not only to tackle the growing traffic problems in urban areas
but also to contribute toward environmental
conservation. The launch event, marked by
the CM’s announcement of discounted fares for women
passengers, was met with immense enthusiasm, underlining the state government’s
commitment to promoting sustainable transportation solutions.
The introduction of the double-decker electric bus is
part of Uttar Pradesh’s efforts to modernize its public transport system while
addressing issues like congestion and pollution in cities. The bus service will cater to both heritage route tours and general
passenger needs, providing a much-needed solution to urban mobility concerns.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath flagged off the bus with a vision to integrate
modern, environment-friendly technology into everyday commuting.
After the official flag-off, the CM took a ride on
the bus, accompanied by children, during which he learned more about the bus’s
advanced features. This interaction not only showcased the Chief Minister’s
personal engagement with the project but also highlighted his vision for
improving the state’s transport infrastructure.
The double-decker electric bus offers a variety of
features designed to improve convenience, safety, and environmental
sustainability. The bus has a seating capacity of 65 passengers,
making it ideal for urban routes with high traffic volume. It is set to operate
on the heritage route in the mornings and for regular
passengers in the evening, offering a versatile service schedule to cater to
different needs. One of the key benefits of this initiative is the electric
nature of the bus, which aligns with the state’s objectives to reduce
pollution levels and promote cleaner, greener transport alternatives.
To further enhance passenger experience, the bus is equipped with five
CCTV cameras and a panic button, which will significantly
improve women’s safety during travel. Additionally, the bus
has an electronic vehicle tracking device, allowing real-time
tracking of its location for better coordination and management of services.
For passengers making digital payments, there is a 10%
discount, further encouraging the use of technology in public transport.
In a move aimed at empowering women, Yogi
Adityanath announced a 50% discount on tickets for female passengers traveling on the new double-decker
electric bus. This initiative was met with thunderous applause from the
audience at the event, reflecting the importance of this gesture in promoting
gender inclusivity in public transportation. Furthermore, the CM also
announced free travel for women on the heritage route
in the morning trips every Saturday, adding another layer of support to
women’s mobility and participation in public services.
This project also ties into the larger goals of sustainable
development and economic growth. The introduction of
electric buses is expected to reduce carbon emissions, thus
contributing to the state’s efforts to combat air pollution and mitigate the
effects of climate change. At the same time, the project is likely to stimulate
economic growth by generating employment opportunities in the
electric vehicle sector. The Hinduja Group, which is setting up
an electric vehicle manufacturing plant in the state, will
soon begin production, aligning with the government’s push for local industrial
growth and job creation.
The electric bus service is not just limited to city routes but will
also connect important areas like Kamta Crossing and the airport,
providing much-needed connectivity to key urban centers via the Shaheed
Path.
The expansion of electric bus
services is expected to be a major step in reducing traffic congestion and
improving public transport infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh,
setting a benchmark for other states in India
