The project will involve an investment of
₹1,000 crore and aims to generate approximately 5,000 jobs by 2027.
This strategic move aligns with India’s broader goals under initiatives
such as the India Semiconductor Mission, India AI Mission, and the Make in
India programme. Gujarat, led by Chief
Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, has been a key player in
fostering high-tech manufacturing and innovation, supported by industry-ready
infrastructure and efficient logistics at DSIR.
The MoU outlines
Jabil’s focus on manufacturing for networking, capital goods, automotive, and
allied industries. The agreement was signed by B N Shukla, Operations
Director at Jabil, and Manish Gurvan, Mission Director of the Gujarat State
Electronics Mission (GSEM). Mona Khandhar, Principal Secretary of the Science
and Technology Department, and Frederic McCoy, Jabil’s Executive Vice
President, Global, officiated the exchange.
Jabil’s expansion into
Gujarat adds to a growing list of technology leaders, including Micron and Tata
Electronics, establishing operations in the state. Notably, Tata Electronics is setting up India’s first commercial
semiconductor fab in Dholera, further solidifying the region’s reputation as a
high-tech manufacturing hub.
Chief Minister
Bhupendra Patel commented, “This partnership underscores Gujarat’s commitment
to becoming a global technology leader. It will create high-skill jobs and
drive the production of world-class products.”
With over 100 facilities worldwide, Jabil brings five decades of
expertise in engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain solutions. Its
investment in DSIR strengthens Gujarat’s position as a critical player in
India’s technological transformation.
