Indian Maritime University (IMU) held a workshop on 14 November 2024 at Hotel Courtyard by Marriott, NERUL, Navi Mumbai for Marine industry and Insurance companies under the aegis of ‘Centre for Policy Research in Maritime Studies’ (C-PRiMeS). It was attended by representatives of DG Shipping, Shipowners Academia, Indian coastal conference shipping association (ICCSA), Insurance companies and other stakeholders.
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor DR MALINI v Shankar presided over the workshop and Capt. J.C. Anand, former MD, Indian Register of Shipping graced the event as chief guest. Dr. Rajoo Balaji, Pro-Vice Chancellor IMU gave the opening brief of the event, after the welcome speech by host Capt. Mihir Chandra, Director IMU-NAVI MUMBAI CAMPUS.
It was well attended by more than 20 participants from PSU-Insurance companies, DGS, ICCSA, SCI Ltd, GIC Reinsurance Council of India, and Industry experts. The workshop was moderated by Prof. of Practice (Capt.) S. Kishore-IMU.
The deliberations had all hues of perception with consent to have an Indigenous P&I with third-party liability service as being the call of the time to steer course having favourable current and wind from desired quarters. It was agreed to take steps ahead in a structured manner with coastal vessels and inland vessels as the first targets.
The workshop wrapped up on a convergence with a vote of thanks by Dr. N. Godhantaraman, Academic consultant IMU. With this Workshop IMU whistled louder for the slogan ‘VOCAL FOR LOCAL WITH GLOBAL.’
