Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Kamarajar Port Limited

Kamarajar Port Limited (KPL), a subsidiary of the Chennai Port Authority, celebrated its Silver Jubilee at The Leela Palace, Chennai, highlighting its 25-year journey of operational excellence and contributions to nation-building.

The grand event was graced by Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, and Shri E.V. Velu, Hon’ble Minister for Public Works, Highways, and Minor Ports, Tamil Nadu.

Shri Sunil Paliwal, IAS, Chairperson of the Chennai Port Authority and Chairman, KPL, delivered the keynote address, reflecting on the port’s pivotal role in India’s maritime development, while Smt. J.P. Irene Cynthia, IAS, Managing Director, KPL welcomed the distinguished guests. She outlined the journey of Kamarajar port, and laid down the future path.

The event featured notable highlights, including the release of KPL’s Coffee Table Book, encapsulating its legacy, and the unveiling of the Master Plan 2047, outlining a sustainable growth roadmap. Master plan 2047 envisages growth of the port from the current 9 berth with 57.44 Million tonnes handling capacity to 27 berths with 254.52 million tonnes by 2047. Foundation stones were laid for critical projects such as Capital Dredging Phase VI (₹520 crore), a 1 MLD Sea Water Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plant (₹37 crore), and an Integrated Command and Control Center (₹25 crore).

The event was made even more special by the presence of Dipika Pallikal, a Padma Shri and Arjuna Awardee, and India’s first squash player to win the World Doubles and Mixed Doubles Championship, and Andrea Jeremiah, a celebrated playback singer and actress, whose contributions to Indian cinema have earned her critical acclaim and numerous awards. Both luminaries attended as Guests of Honour and inspired the audience with their achievements, sharing their journeys during an engaging interaction session.

The celebration concluded with a heartfelt tribute to the port’s employees, their families, stakeholders, and state officials, who have been instrumental in shaping KPL’s remarkable legacy. Their collective efforts and unwavering dedication have established KPL as a beacon of sustainability, innovation, and excellence in India’s maritime sector. As KPL embarks on its next chapter, it reaffirms its commitment to driving India’s maritime aspirations and fostering sustainable development.
