State-run UDP said the decision was made as it
wants to focus on modernising its river fleet. The six small dry bulk
ships will be auctioned in a single lot on December 13.
Two vessels –
the Vilkovo and Izmail – are
ready to start work straight away. However, the other four ships – Tatarbunar, Viana do Castelo, Kiliya, and Reni – have been inactive for years.
UDP’s history dates back to 1944 when it was
founded in order to ensure transportation of troops and equipment along the
Danube during World War Two.
