This initiative
spans three key sectors—Port Link (Haldia-Kolkata-Haldia), IDBR (Nepal), and
MAVB (Vedanta)—and has significantly reduced the Carbon Footprint associated
with container transport.
HDC handled 134 container trains between April and
September 2024, moving 12,056 TEUs and achieving a total Carbon Footprint
reduction of around 5633.67 tonnes. In September 2024, HDC reached a remarkable
milestone by handling the highest number of container trains in a single month. A total of 46 trains transported 4148
TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units), resulting in a Carbon Footprint reduction
of approximately 1567.26 tonnes.
These accomplishments would not have been possible
without the robust collaboration between Container Train Operators (CTOs) and
Shipping Lines, who have ensured smooth and efficient operations.
To recognize their
vital contributions and encourage continued participation in this ecofriendly
initiative, HDC/SMPK has proposed the institution of annual awards for
outstanding performers: • Award for
Highest Number of Trains Operated by a CTO: Hind Terminals Pvt. Ltd. operated
59 trains at HDC, earning recognition for the highest train operations from
April to September 2024 and • Award for Shipping Line with Maximum Container
Movement by Rail:
Mediterranean Shipping Company, S.A., Geneva transported 8192 TEUs, earning
recognition for the highest container movement by rail during the same period. Through these efforts, HDC, and SMPK aim to
inspire CTOs to establish new connections with cargo clusters and motivate
Shipping Lines to enhance rail usage for container transport, further reducing
environmental impact.
HDC remains dedicated to expanding its rail
connections to new cargo clusters and strengthening its Green Logistics
framework. With the continued support of its valued partners, HDC is fostering
a sustainable future.
