The civic body
plans to fund ₹ 40 crore from the Local Planning Authority, and cover the
remaining ₹2.65 crore from its general fund. The Coimbatore Corporation has
proposed a ₹42.65 crore project to re-lay some of the damaged roads across the
city.
Of the total 3,236.96 km of roads under the Corporation’s
jurisdiction, 2,659.67 km are tar-topped roads, 258.88 km are earthen roads,
and 294.05 km are cement roads.
A total of
1,815.31 km of tar-topped roads were cut to lay underground sewage or drinking
water pipelines. The re-laying works are over for 725.18 km.
The civic body has prepared detailed project reports to repair 652
roads, covering a total length of 104.75 km. The
planned works, prioritised based on need, include 21.53 km of roads in the East
Zone at ₹769.66 lakhs, 19.15 km in the West Zone for ₹983.84 lakhs, 43 km in
the North Zone for ₹817.99 lakhs, 27.15 km in the South Zone for ₹881.47 lakhs,
and 17.17 km in the Central Zone for ₹812.07 lakhs.
