Importers have started unloading fertilizer, coal,
clinker, and stone from 13 mother vessels.Leaders of the Bangladesh Workers’ Federation and Bangladesh Lighterage
Workers’ Union met with the Director General of the Department of Shipping at
his office.
Following the meeting, they
announced the withdrawal of the strike.
The unloading of imported goods resumed from mother vessels anchored at
Mongla Port. Importers have started unloading fertilizer, coal, clinker, and
stone from 13 mother vessels.
The strike by
water transport workers caused a massive backlog of goods, resulting in
financial losses amounting to several lakh taka. However, with
the strike ending on Saturday night, unloading operations resumed on Sunday
morning. The strike began earlier on
Thursday at midnight, following a four-point demand by workers in response to
the killing of seven people on a ship in the Meghna River in Chandpur.
The strike disrupted goods transportation and unloading on internal
waterways.
