The Andhra
Pradesh Capital Region
Development Authority (CRDA) has called for tenders to take up construction
works worth ₹1206 crore in the Greenfield Amaravati Capital project. With this CRDA has kicked off the process
for hastening the building of new capital as the Government had already
approved various works worth about ₹48,000 crore as part of its plans to
complete the construction of new capital by 2027.
The works for which
tenders have been called include creation of basic infrastructure facilities
including roads, drainage, drinking water supply in the Zone 5-B, Zone 5-D and
in other mail layouts of the capital region. The deadline for submission
of bids is 3 PM in January 2025 and the works are expected to be commenced from
February.
The CRDA is in the process of releasing separate
bids for other main works soon. The works to be taken up in the main capital zone commence
include the assembly building, a high-rise tower, coming up in 103 acres, a
47-storeyed Chief Minister’s office, a new High Court building and basic
infrastructure in the capital layout including roads for a length of 579
km.
The residential
quarters for Ministers, Legislators and IAS officers had been almost completed
when the works were halted midway by the YSRCP government. With the pending
works to be taken up soon, they will be the first constructions to be completed
in the capital project.
As a new year ‘gift’ to the farmers, CRDA has also
asked the farmers who had given the land for the capital through land pooling
to come forward to complete registration of their returnable plots.
The capital project,
which began by the TDP Government during its rule 2014-19 was shelved by the
YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Government of Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy after it came to
power in 2019 as announced a decentralised capital model with the executive,
legislative and judicial capitals at Visakhapatnam, Amaravati and
Kurnool.
